The Art WAR™ Intercollegiate Tournament Series will bring teams of student artists together for a series of high-energy creative battles where collaboration and creative chaos take center stage.
Think game show meets collaborative art jam session with a DJ, hype MC, wild artistic challenges, and a crowd cheering them on, Art WAR turns the creative process into a live artmaking experience for everyone!
What is Art WAR™?
Art WAR is a live, collaborative, interactive artmaking showdown where teams ofstudent artists, along side their professor Art Coach, work through a series of timed creative challenges in front of a live audience.
Each round introduces new prompts, creative constraints, and unexpected twists inspired by art movements, styles, and famous artists interpreted in totally unexpected ways.
Every round pushes teams to think differently, work together, and embrace the unpredictable nature of creativity.
Art WAR™ is part art challenge, part performance, and part creative experiment happening in real time.
The Intercollegiate Tournament
Following a successful pilot event at Herkimer College and additional support from the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Art WAR is expanding into a regional intercollegiate tournament for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Participating schools will host their own inhouse intermural Art WAR events in Fall 2026, where students will go up against their classmates on their home turf.
Then in Spring 2027, teams will travel between campuses for a series of intercollegiate matchups, representing their schools and getting the chance to connect with other student artists and communities across the region.
A Campus Meets Community Event
Art WAR doesn’t just happen for students.
Each event invites the public to come out and experience the creative process live! Come cheer on the teams, help us throw some curveballs into the mix, and sometimes even join in on the action.
Whether you're an artist, a student, a neighbor, or looking for a creative happening to do, Art WAR turns artmaking into something everyone can experience together.
Because at the end of the day, Art WAR is an Art Thing for everyone.
