The REEL Thing
A Free Outdoor Movie Series Along the Canal
This summer, The Art Thing Collaborative is bringing movies back to the way they’re meant to be experienced… together!
The REEL Thing is a free outdoor film series traveling across five canal towns: Little Falls, Herkimer, Mohawk, Ilion, and Frankfort. Each town library will host one classic movie night in a local park, inviting neighbors, families, and friends to gather for a shared evening under the stars.
In a time when most of us watch movies at home on our own, this series is about bringing the moviegoing experience back to that community vibe, laughing, reacting, and enjoying a film side by side.
What to Expect
One classic movie shown outdoors on a large screen in each of the 5 canal towns
A relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere
Community spotlight moments
Free popcorn (donations welcome)
Subtitles included for accessibility
A Series That Connects Communities
Each screening is part of a larger series designed to connect canal towns across the region. We encourage you to check out multiple locations throughout the summer — experience a different movie, a different town, and a different community each time.
*Think you can make it to all five movies!?
*Everyone who makes it to all five movies becomes an honorary member in The REEL Thing Club and earns a special award.
Free & Open to All
All screenings are free and open to the public. Just bring a chair or blanket and come enjoy a night at the movies together.
